Le WWE Intercontinental Championship est un championnat de catch appartenant à la fédération de catch américaine, la World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Le titre a été intronisé pour la première fois dans la WWE en 1979, à l'époque connue sous le nom de World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Pat Patterson, qui était l'actuel champion WWF North American Heavyweight Championship, a unifié le titre au South American Heavyweight Championship,. La WWF a considéré l'Intercontinental Championship comme étant le second championnat le plus important de la compagnie, après le WWF Championship. En 2002, la WWF est renommée World Wrestling Entertainment. Après avoir changé de nom, le titre est renommé WWE Intercontinental Championship. Le tout premier champion détenant ce titre était Pat Patterson, qui a gagné le championnat en 1979. Le titre connait actuellement 184 règnes, pour un total de 89 champions différents, et fut également vacant 10 fois.
